A Silver Spring man is celebrating a $50,800 lottery win after purchasing a Bonus Match 5 ticket for the May 7 drawing.
According to MD Lottery, the retired Nordstrom tailoring department employee purchased the ticket at Colesville Beer & Wine, located at 13468 New Hampshire Avenue. While checking numbers several days later using the Maryland Lottery app, he realized a winning ticket had been sold at the same store where he bought his tickets. After comparing the numbers, he discovered he matched all five numbers to win the $50,000 top prize, along with an additional $800 from other matching numbers on the same ticket.
The Montgomery County resident shared the news with his wife, who responded, “It’s about time,” according to Lottery officials. He later surprised his daughter by having her drive him to Maryland Lottery headquarters on May 13 under the impression they were headed to a doctor’s appointment. He said the winnings will go toward paying bills and taking a vacation with his wife. Colesville Beer & Wine will also receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
