DICK’S Sporting Goods is set to officially unveil its newly transformed DICK’S House of Sport at Rio Lakefront with a three-day grand opening celebration next month featuring athlete appearances, giveaways, interactive experiences, and more.
The Grand Opening “House Party” will take place Friday, June 5 through Sunday, June 7 at the store located at 2 Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg. The weekend-long event is designed to showcase the retailer’s next-generation House of Sport concept, which combines traditional sporting goods retail with immersive athletic experiences and interactive attractions.
Special guest appearances are scheduled throughout the weekend, including Washington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson on Friday, June 5 from 6pm-7:30pm and Washington Commanders linebacker Sonny Styles on Saturday, June 6 from noon-1:30pm.
The store will also offer a variety of giveaways and activities during the grand opening celebration. The first 100 adults in line each morning will receive a free mystery gift card, with one potentially valued at $500. The first 100 kids in line will receive a free DSG soccer ball. More information can be found on the DICK’S website.
Additional attractions include an in-store “Expression Lab” where visitors can customize gear through activities such as shoe charm bars, tote heat pressing, and laser etching. Customers will also have the opportunity to participate in “Unlock the DICK’S Vault,” a prize challenge featuring giveaway opportunities throughout the weekend.
As previously reported by The MoCo Show, the Gaithersburg location has undergone a massive $10.2 million renovation to convert the traditional DICK’S Sporting Goods into the company’s rapidly expanding House of Sport format.
The concept features attractions and amenities not typically found in a standard sporting goods store, including rock climbing walls, indoor tracks, and golf simulators designed to create a more experiential shopping environment.
“Compared to a typical Dick’s store, athletes are traveling farther to visit House of Sport, increasing the time they spend in the store and visiting more frequently,” DICK’S CEO Lauren Hobart said during an earnings call last year.
The Rio location remained open throughout construction, with major interior changes including the permanent removal of the store’s escalators and the addition of wide staircases connecting the two levels. The Gaithersburg store joins a growing national rollout of the House of Sport concept, which the company plans to expand significantly over the next several years.
