A Maryland sandwich shop has landed national recognition after being included on Only in Your State’s newly released list of “The Best 50 Sandwich Shops Across The U.S.”
RegionAle, which now operates solely out of Ellicott City following the recent closure of its Annapolis location, earned a spot on the nationwide roundup highlighting standout sandwich destinations across the country.
Per Only in Your State: “For our latest 50 Best list, we set out to find the sandwich shops that truly stand above the rest. These are the places that locals swear by, road-trippers detour for, and first-time visitors immediately add to their must-return list.”
The publication said its selections were based on a combination of popularity, reviews, awards, reader nominations, ingredient quality, affordability, accessibility, innovation, and overall value.
Only in Your State specifically highlighted RegionAle’s Maryland crabcake sandwich, which features Old Bay remoulade, while also noting the restaurant’s broader menu of regionally inspired sandwiches from around the country.
“RegionAle has two Maryland locations (Ellicott City and Annapolis), so of course its MD Crabcake sandwich with Old Bay remoulade is a crowd favorite,” the publication wrote. “The menu also highlights other favorites from other states like the FL Cubano and LA Shrimp Po Boy to more unique takes like the OR Tuna Steak sandwich.”
According to RegionAle, the concept was created to showcase regionally famous American sandwiches and craft beer while modernizing classic recipes with fresh ingredients and house-made touches.

Menu offerings include sandwiches such as the bulgogi hoagie, Philly cheesesteak, Nashville hot chicken, California chicken club, NY Italian Hero, Florida Cubano, shrimp po’ boy, and more. RegionAle’s remaining location is at 5705 Richards Valley Rd, Suite B-1 in Ellicott City.
