Montgomery County Police say a Burtonsville man is awaiting extradition to Maryland after being charged in the killing of his mother.
According to police, officers responded Saturday at approximately 5:56 pm to an apartment in the 3900 block of Blackburn Lane for a welfare check after 50-year-old Glenda Patricia Salamanca Reyes failed to report to work. Officers entered the apartment and located Salamanca Reyes deceased in a hallway with apparent trauma to her body.
Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division Homicide Unit determined that Salamanca Reyes lived with her son, 28-year-old Ricardo Adelso Colato Salamanca. Police said Salamanca Reyes’s white 2019 Jeep Compass was seen leaving the apartment complex as officers arrived and was later entered into NCIC as a felony vehicle.
An autopsy conducted Sunday determined Salamanca Reyes died from multiple stab wounds and ruled the death a homicide. Detectives subsequently obtained arrest warrants charging Colato Salamanca with first-degree murder and motor vehicle theft.
Authorities said members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Colato Salamanca early Monday morning at a truck stop in Salisbury, North Carolina. He remains in custody awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.
