Montgomery County Police Boosting Visibility Around Religious Centers After Deadly Mosque Shooting In San Diego

The Montgomery County Department of Police says officers are increasing patrols and visibility around places of worship and other community gathering spaces following Monday’s deadly shooting at a mosque in San Diego.

In a statement shared Monday night, MCPD said the department understands that members of the community “may be feeling concerned and unsettled” following the attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, which authorities are investigating as a possible hate crime.

“At this time, there are no known threats to our community,” MCPD said, adding that the department remains in close communication with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners while continuing to monitor the situation.

Police are encouraging residents to remain aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity. For emergencies, residents should call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, call 301-279-8000.
