$2.4 Million Permit Approved for Upcoming Nordstrom Rack

A permit valued at more than $2 million has been approved for work to begin on the upcoming Nordstrom Rack at Congressional Plaza in Rockville.

According to Maryland Newsletters, the project carries a valuation of $2.4 million and covers interior alterations for the future 26,000 SF store at 1683 Rockville Pike, the former Buy Buy Baby space within the shopping center.

The approval marks another major step forward for the highly anticipated off-price retailer, which Federal Realty announced in November would open at Congressional Plaza in fall 2026. Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, Inc. and offers discounts of up to 70 percent on clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty products, and home goods.

“We look forward to being a part of the Rockville community and serving our customers with an amazing offering of great brands at great prices,” Nordstrom Rack President Gemma Lionello previously said when the project was announced. She also noted that the location will offer services including online order pickup and returns for purchases made through both Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com.

Federal Realty previously described the addition of Nordstrom Rack as another enhancement to the long-established shopping destination, which has continued to attract a mix of national brands and local businesses.

The existing Nordstrom Rack on Shady Grove continues to operate normally and no changes are expected as of now.
