A Montgomery County jury has found 20-year-old Jorden Hungerford guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the 2025 killing of 20-year-old Henry Krishawn Gilbert of Montgomery Village.
The verdict was returned on May 18, 2026, following a ten-day trial before Judge Debra Dwyer in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County. Hungerford faces a potential sentence of life in prison plus an additional 60 years. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date.
According to prosecutors, Gilbert was found shot to death inside a green Honda Civic on Brookridge Court in Gaithersburg on April 26, 2025. Investigators determined Hungerford posed as a female acquaintance of the victim through social media messages and arranged to purchase $70 worth of marijuana, luring Gilbert to the location. Prosecutors said Hungerford and co-defendant Demari Brown then robbed and fatally shot Gilbert while he sat in his vehicle. Brown previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is scheduled to be sentenced on September 1, 2026. Assistant State’s Attorneys Teresa Casafranca and Lauren Turner prosecuted the case.
“This senseless and unnecessary loss of a young member of our community centers around the illegal purchase of marijuana,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy. “Despite the decriminalization of cannabis, illegal sales continue, and the illegal buying and selling of marijuana is the most violent drug market in Montgomery County. Almost invariably, when a life is lost in connection with the distribution of drugs, the drug involved is marijuana. We are grateful that justice has been served in this case with both defendants facing the potential of life in prison.”
