Popular Chicago Deep-Dish Spot Sets Opening Date for First DC Location

Chicago-based Giordano’s has officially announced that it will open its first DMV location on Tuesday, June 9, in downtown Washington, D.C. A video preview can be seen below.

The restaurant, famous for its stuffed deep-dish pizza, is opening in the roughly 7,000-square-foot space at 600 14th St. NW near Metro Center. The location was previously home to MXDC Cocina Mexicana before the restaurant relocated to another space on 14th Street in late 2023.

Giordano’s recently indicated it was targeting an “early summer” debut, with signage at the restaurant earlier this year pointing toward a late spring opening. Hiring had also been underway in recent months as the company prepared for its launch.

The new restaurant marks Giordano’s first location in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region and is expected to serve as the brand’s flagship DMV outpost. Company leadership has previously suggested that additional regional locations could follow.

Founded in 1974 by brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio, Giordano’s began as a neighborhood pizzeria on Chicago’s South Side before growing into one of the country’s most recognizable deep-dish pizza chains. The brand is best known for its stuffed pizza, which features layers of mozzarella and fillings beneath a thin top crust topped with tomato sauce. Today, Giordano’s operates more than 70 locations nationwide.
