Romero’s Italian Restaurant is preparing to open in the longtime home of Cristina Ristorante Italiano at 2666 University Boulevard West in Wheaton.
The restaurant will hold a soft opening beginning at 11 am on Sunday, May 25, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, June 3.
Romero’s will offer a wide range of traditional Italian dishes for both lunch and dinner, including pasta favorites like fettuccine Alfredo, spaghetti carbonara, lasagna, ravioli, and cheese manicotti. The menu also features classic chicken, veal, sausage, seafood, and eggplant entrees, along with pizzas, salads, soups, garlic bread, fried calamari, and desserts such as cannoli and tiramisu. Seafood dishes include shrimp fra diavolo, mussels linguini, clam linguini, and calamari served with spaghetti, while pizza options range from traditional cheese pies to white pizzas topped with fontina cheese, anchovies, onions, and olives.
Romero’s is taking over the space following the permanent closure of Cristina Ristorante Italiano, which shut its doors in August 2025 after more than two decades in business. Cristina first opened in May 2002 and became a longtime staple for many Wheaton-area residents.
