The Montgomery County Board of Elections is encouraging residents to make a voting plan ahead of the 2026 election cycle by registering to vote, checking their voter registration status, or updating their information online. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 23.
Residents can vote by mail, during early voting from June 11-18, or in person on Election Day. Election officials encourage voters to confirm their registration early to ensure a smooth voting experience. Per the Board of Elections:
Deadlines to register in advance to vote OR to update name, address, and/or party affiliation are provided below.
- 2026 Primary Election: Tuesday June 2, 2026 (5:00 pm )
Early voting for the 2026 Primary Election is from June 11, 2026 to June 18, 2026.
Election Day is June 23, 2026.
Eligible Maryland residents may register to vote, at a polling place, during early voting and on Election Day for the General Election.
Already registered Maryland voters may update their residential or mailing address during early voting for the General Election.
Register to Vote or Update Your Existing Registration Information
All registered voters are required to keep their voter registration information current. To participate in a party’s primary election, you must be affiliated with the party.
If you are already registered to vote in Maryland, you can:
- Check your voter registration by visiting Voter Lookup (maryland.gov) or texting CHECK to 77788.
- Update your name, address and/or party affiliation by visiting Voter Registration Update (maryland.gov) or texting UPDATE to 77788.
You can register to vote or update your name, address and/or party affiliation by:
- Using the State of Maryland Board of Elections Online Voter Registration System (online option requires a Maryland issued Driving License or ID)
- Completing and returning a Voter registration form to the Montgomery County Board of Elections
- Visiting Montgomery County Board of Elections

If you moved out of the state or you wish to cancel your voter registration for any other reason, please complete and return (via email, mail, or fax) the Request to Cancel Voter Registration form. The Form could also be used to report passing of a family member (more detailed instructions are provided in the Form).
