Montgomery County Councilmember Kate Stewart says her office is closely monitoring a recent increase in vehicle break-ins across the Silver Spring area and is in communication with the Montgomery County Department of Police as investigations continue.
In an update to residents, Stewart said officers assigned to MCPD’s Third District have used security camera footage to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of entering vehicles inside county parking garages. The update comes amid growing concerns from residents about thefts from vehicles in both public garages and residential neighborhoods.
Stewart also shared that police believe multiple groups may be involved in vehicle break-ins throughout the region. Residents with doorbell cameras or other exterior surveillance systems are being encouraged to review footage and share any videos or images of suspicious activity with MCPD by calling the department’s non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
