As temperatures rise across Montgomery County, one of the area’s most popular summer attractions is once again welcoming visitors to cool off.
The Interactive Fountain at The Square in Rockville is now open for the season and will operate through September. Managed by the City of Rockville, the fountain has become a favorite destination for families looking for a free and fun way to beat the heat during the summer months.
The fountain operates Monday through Saturday from 11am to 9pm and Sundays from 12pm to 8pm. City officials note that operating hours may change due to special events or maintenance needs.
Visitors should also be aware of several scheduled early closures throughout the season. On Tuesdays through September 29, the fountain closes at 5:30pm for Cardio Dance in The Square. On Thursdays through August 27, it closes at 5pm for Salsa at The Square. Fridays through September 11 feature the Summer Concert Series, resulting in a 3:30pm closure.
The City of Rockville has several rules in place to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and running or horseplay is prohibited. Eating, drinking, glass containers, animals, and bathing are not permitted in or around the fountain area. Only non-slip water shoes may be worn inside the fountain, and use of the fountain is suspended during thunderstorms and for 30 minutes following the last thunder or lightning event.
Those planning a visit are encouraged to check for any event-related schedule changes before heading to The Square.
