Ocean City Warns Sleeping In Vehicles Can Result In Criminal Charges

Planning to spend the night in Ocean City? Police are reminding visitors that sleeping in vehicles parked on public property is against town ordinance and can carry significant penalties.

In a recent public reminder, the Ocean City Police Department emphasized that motor vehicles may not be used as sleeping quarters while parked on any public street, roadway, alley, parking lot, or other public facility within town limits.

According to police, sleeping in a vehicle on public property can result in criminal charges, fines of up to $5,000, and up to six months of imprisonment.

The reminder is part of the department’s ongoing “Know the Rules” campaign, which highlights local ordinances that visitors may not be aware of before arriving in the resort town.

Officials encourage travelers to make lodging arrangements in advance and familiarize themselves with local regulations before visiting. The department says the rules are intended to help keep Ocean City safe, orderly, and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.
