Updated at 10:07am: Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Monday morning near the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Gail Street in Silver Spring.
Officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene at approximately 2:09 a.m. and found a 39-year-old man in the roadway, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators initially believed the victim may have been operating a scooter, but have since determined he was not on a scooter at the time of the collision. The driver remained at the scene, and the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation. The identity of the victim will be released following notification of next of kin.
