Ocean City Police are reminding residents and visitors that private property is not public space as officials continue efforts to prevent disruptive “takeovers,” large gatherings, and other unauthorized activity during the busy summer season.
In a social media post shared this week, the department emphasized a simple message: “If you don’t have permission to be there, don’t be there.”
Police noted that entering or remaining on private property without authorization can result in enforcement action, criminal charges, and arrest. The reminder comes as Ocean City prepares for another busy summer season that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the beach destination.
The department also stressed that property owners invest significant time and resources into maintaining their homes and businesses and asked visitors to respect those spaces.
Officials reminded the public that if they are asked to leave private property, they should leave immediately, not return, and respect the wishes of residents, businesses, and property owners. The post specifically noted that large gatherings, “takeovers,” and other disruptive activity on private property will not be tolerated.
The department concluded its message by encouraging visitors to know the rules before arriving, respect the community, and help keep Ocean City safe and enjoyable for everyone this summer.
