Koala Kreme Draws Crowds For Grand Opening Celebration

Koala Kreme officially celebrated its grand opening Saturday at The Square at Rockville, drawing a large crowd of customers eager to sample the shop’s frozen treats and see the newest addition to the The Square in Rockville (video below).

When our “Mr. MoCo” Alex Tsironis stopped by to support the business around 12:15pm, the shop was packed with customers taking advantage of free samples and grand opening festivities. The crowd remained steady throughout the visit. Guests had the opportunity to sample a variety of flavors, along with several of the shop’s ice cream sandwich offerings and make purchases of the full-size options.

Koala Kreme brings a modern take on the self-serve frozen yogurt concept that became popular years ago, while expanding the menu with additional dessert options. In addition to frozen yogurt, customers can choose from soft-serve ice cream, gelato, real fruit smoothies, milkshakes, ice cream cakes and ice cream sandwiches. The business has also announced plans to introduce boba drinks and dirty sodas in the coming weeks, further expanding its menu offerings.

The dessert shop is located at 100 Gibbs Street, Unit I, in The Square at Rockville, taking over the space formerly occupied by Marble Slab Creamery. Marble Slab had operated in the location for more than a decade before closing in September 2025.

Friday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony with the local Chamber of Commerce was followed by Saturday’s public grand opening celebration, which featured giveaways, free samples and special offers for customers. Based on the turnout during the first hour of the celebration, the community appears eager to welcome the new dessert destination to downtown Rockville.
