Metro Making Bus And Red Line Service Changes This Summer

Metro has implemented a series of service changes across the Washington region, including updates affecting some Montgomery County riders.

The changes took effect Sunday, June 21, and are intended to improve reliability and strengthen connections throughout Metro’s service area. Among the Maryland routes receiving schedule adjustments is the M12, which operates between Twinbrook and Wheaton. Metro has not highlighted any major routing changes in Montgomery County, with most of the Maryland bus updates affecting routes that primarily serve Prince George’s County.

The more significant change for many Montgomery County commuters will come on Sunday, June 28, when Metro increases Red Line service during weekday rush hours. Trains will operate at least every four minutes for a longer portion of the morning and afternoon rush periods, improving service on Metro’s busiest rail line.

Metro is also increasing peak-direction service on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, where trains will operate at least every nine minutes during the busiest portions of weekday rush hours. The enhanced Red Line service will remain in place except during planned summer construction between July 6 and September 6.
