Little Miner Taco has permanently closed its Rockville Town Square location at 39 Maryland Ave., less than two years after opening in July 2024.
The restaurant announced the closure in a message to customers, thanking the Rockville community for its support and reflecting on its history in Montgomery County. “Rockville holds a special place in our story,” the company wrote, noting that one of its first local ventures was at The Block food hall at Pike & Rose before opening the standalone Town Square location.
Known for its Mexican street food and especially its popular Birria De Res Queso tacos served with consommé for dipping, Little Miner built a following in Rockville during its time in Town Square. At the restaurant’s opening, owner Kathy Voss credited the menu’s homemade flavors to fresh ingredients and a culinary team led by executive chef Joel Sánchez.
While the brick-and-mortar location has closed, Little Miner said it is not leaving Rockville entirely. The company plans to continue serving customers in the area through its food truck and will maintain operations at its Brentwood and Washington, D.C., locations.
“Over the years, we’ve served thousands of birria tacos, built an incredible team, and been supported by an even more incredible community,” the restaurant said. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Rockville.”
