Maryland Grandmother Wins $100,000 Maryland Lottery Prize

A Gaithersburg grandmother is celebrating a $100,000 Maryland Lottery win after her daughter purchased a Scratch & Match scratch-off ticket during a trip to Giant at 18250 Flower Hill Way.

The winning ticket was purchased while the daughter was out buying sympathy flowers following the recent death of a family member. She also picked up several scratch-offs for her mother, a tradition the two share. The daughter said she selected the Scratch & Match ticket because it was “purple and pretty.”

The winner said she matched one of the winning numbers and quickly realized she had landed the game’s $100,000 top prize. While she remained calm, her daughter had a much different reaction. “When I saw how much it was, I almost fell out of my chair,” the daughter said.

The Gaithersburg woman claimed her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on June 22. She said she plans to use part of the winnings for a trip to New York City to see the Statue of Liberty, with the rest going into savings. Giant will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
