Update: Running Vehicle Found in Garage After 91-Year-Old Man and 89-Year-Old Woman Dead in Home

Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police Major Crimes Division are investigating the deaths of a Boyds couple after they were found unresponsive inside their home Saturday afternoon.

According to police, 91-year-old Ceferino Jarin and 89-year-old Elizabeth Jarin were found inside their residence in the 12700 block of Fernberry Lane after family members went to check on them when a home health aide was unable to make contact. Family members called 911 at approximately 3:23 p.m. after discovering the couple unresponsive.

Investigators said that earlier in the day, Elizabeth Jarin had believed a smoke alarm was sounding and that her husband was unable to reach it to turn it off. Authorities later determined that the alarm was a carbon monoxide detector. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel detected carbon monoxide levels of 2,000 parts per million on the main level of the home and found a vehicle with its engine running inside the garage. Police said the deaths do not appear to be suspicious, and the investigation remains ongoing.
