What To Know About Parking And Road Closures For Takoma Park’s July 4 Parade

Takoma Park has released parking restrictions and road closure information ahead of its annual Fourth of July parade on Saturday, July 4.

From 6am to 2pm, parking will be permitted on Lee Avenue between Maple Avenue and Hancock Avenue, Sherman Avenue between Maple Avenue and Hancock Avenue, Grant Avenue between Maple Avenue and Carroll Avenue (both blocks), and along all blocks of Hancock Avenue to help accommodate residents and visitors attending the parade.

Several streets and parking areas will be designated as no parking zones from 6am to 2pm to support parade operations and public safety. Restrictions include Jackson Avenue between Ethan Allen Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway, Ritchie Avenue between Maple Avenue and Piney Branch Road, Maple Avenue between Tulip Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, Sherman Avenue between Hancock Avenue and Carroll Avenue, the 7100 block of Willow Avenue, the 300 block of Tulip Avenue, all of Carroll Avenue, and all parking meters along the parade route and staging areas. Parking will also be prohibited behind the City Building and behind the Police Department. In addition, parking will not be allowed on Lee Avenue between Hancock Avenue and Carroll Avenue from 4pm to 9pm for the evening celebration.

Maple Avenue will have no parking from 6am until 10pm because of both the daytime parade and evening festivities. Roads along the parade route will close beginning at 9am and are expected to reopen around 2pm. Maple Avenue will remain closed until approximately 10pm for the evening celebration.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Carroll Avenue and Ethan Allen Avenue before traveling south on Carroll Avenue. It will turn right onto Willow Avenue, left onto Tulip Avenue, right onto Maple Avenue, and continue to Ritchie Avenue, where participants will disband. The route forms a U-shape, bringing the parade back to within a few blocks of its starting point.
