As extreme heat grips Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is providing complimentary water bottles to Ride On bus passengers to help riders stay safe and hydrated.
The free water bottles are being placed at the front of Ride On buses and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one bottle per passenger while supplies last. MCDOT said the initiative is a proactive measure to support riders during the ongoing heat emergency.
The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security has issued a Heat Emergency Alert from 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, through 8 a.m. Monday, July 6, as heat index values are expected to reach 105 degrees or higher. Officials are reminding residents that extreme heat can quickly become dangerous, particularly for older adults, children and those with underlying health conditions.
Symptoms of heat-related illness can include muscle cramps, dizziness, nausea, headaches and weakness. More severe symptoms, such as hot, dry skin, rapid breathing, a weak pulse or changes in consciousness, require immediate medical attention. Residents experiencing a medical emergency should call 911.
