Montgomery County Opens Six Cooling Centers For July 3 And 4

With Montgomery County government offices closed for the Independence Day holiday, six County facilities will serve as cooling centers on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, providing residents without air conditioning a place to stay cool during the heat.

In his weekly message, County Executive Marc Elrich said the centers will be open from 11am to 7pm both days. “The County has designated six sites in the community as cooling centers on Friday and Saturday, when County offices are closed for the holiday. They will be open from 11am to 7pm, and they are intended as places for residents to come indoors and cool off,” Elrich said.

The six cooling centers are:

  • East County Community Recreation Center: 3310 Gateshead Manor Way, Silver Spring
  • Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center: 4301 Willow Lane, Chevy Chase
  • Rockville Memorial Library: 21 Maryland Ave., Rockville
  • Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center: 1319 Apple Ave., Silver Spring
  • Upper County Community Recreation Center: 8201 Emory Grove Road, Gaithersburg
  • Wheaton Community Recreation Center: 11701 Georgia Ave., Wheaton

The buildings will be partially open to provide a cool indoor space. However, regular services typically offered at these locations will not be available, including weight rooms, game rooms, gymnasiums, and library material checkout.
