Meet The Montgomery County Creator Behind One Of The Biggest Power Universe Communities Online

Born and raised in Germantown and a graduate of Northwest High School, Nick Nyaa never expected that posting videos about one of his favorite television franchises would eventually become a full-time career. Today, better known online as Mr. Power or MrPowerUniverse, he has built a following of a few hundred thousand people across YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms, becoming one of the internet’s most recognizable independent creators covering STARZ’ Power universe, the hit crime drama franchise that includes the original Power and its spinoff series, through episode breakdowns, theories, interviews, and analysis.

Nyaa says growing up in Montgomery County’s diverse community helped shape both his perspective and the way he connects with his audience. “Montgomery County has such a diverse community, and I think that gave me an appreciation for connecting with people from all different backgrounds,” he said. “Even as my audience has grown across the country and around the world, it’s still special knowing that I’m representing the place where everything started.”

His journey into content creation began simply as a passion project. While promoting a gambling business he was running, Nyaa started creating videos analyzing the Power franchise because he genuinely enjoyed discussing television, characters, and storytelling. “I wasn’t expecting it at all to become what it is today,” he said. “I was simply making videos because I loved the franchise and wanted to connect with other fans.”

What started as a hobby eventually grew into a career through years of consistency. After losing his job last year, content creation officially became his full-time profession. Rather than relying on one viral video, Nyaa credits his success to posting daily, interviewing cast members, expanding across multiple platforms, and treating the channel like a business. “The turning point wasn’t one viral video,” he said. “It was realizing that I had built something sustainable through consistency.”

Despite building an international audience, Montgomery County remains central to his story. He still considers the county home and says many of his favorite memories come from simply growing up here, spending time with friends, exploring different parts of the county, and watching the community continue to grow.

His local roots have also followed him into his career. Nyaa says he is regularly recognized while shopping, eating at restaurants, working out at the gym, and going about his daily life around Montgomery County. “It’s still surreal every time it happens,” he said. “The best part is hearing someone say they’ve been watching my content for years or that they look forward to my episode breakdowns every week. Those interactions remind me why I keep creating.”

As one of the most recognizable voices in the Power fandom, Nyaa has developed strong opinions on the franchise. He ranks Power Book III: Raising Kanan as the best series in the universe, followed by the original Power, Power Book II: Ghost, and Power Book IV: Force.

He believes Raising Kanan has separated itself because of its focus on character development.“Instead of relying only on shocking moments, it takes the time to show why characters become who they are,” he said. “The writing, acting, and attention to detail have been phenomenal. Every decision has consequences, and every character feels layered.”

His top five characters across the franchise are Ghost, Marvin Thomas, Kanan Stark, Tommy Egan, and Raq Thomas, with Ghost remaining his all-time favorite. He also believes Marvin Thomas is the franchise’s most underrated character, praising London Brown for one of the strongest performances in the series.

When asked who has delivered the best acting performance across the entire franchise, Nyaa pointed to Patina Miller for her portrayal of Raq Thomas. If he could interview one more member of the franchise, his choice would be Omari Hardwick, who portrayed Ghost.

One of the highlights of his career has been interviewing cast members from across the Power universe, including what he describes as his favorite experience… sitting down with the entire cast of Power Book IV: Force.

Outside of Power, Nyaa also creates content about shows including The Boys and Invincible, while also discussing sports, business, and other topics. He says he never wants to be confined to one niche, with his ultimate goal being to build communities around great storytelling.

While many people assume content creation is easy, Nyaa says the reality is much different.“People usually only see the finished video,” he said. “They don’t see the research, scripting, editing, thumbnail design, responding to comments, studying analytics, or staying up until two or three in the morning after an episode airs just to get content out while it’s still fresh.”

He says he often spends 10 to 12 hours a day creating content and growing his business. Nyaa also says learning that several actors in the Power universe have Montgomery County roots made covering the franchise even more meaningful. “Seeing talented actors from Montgomery County thrive in one of my favorite franchises reminds me that great talent can come from anywhere,” he said. “Hopefully, my journey as a creator can inspire someone else here to chase what they’re passionate about too.”
