El Andariego’s Jaime Vásquez Receives Recognition From Consulate General Of El Salvador

Jaime Vásquez, co-owner of El Andariego Restaurant in Ashton, has been recognized by the Consulate General of El Salvador for his decades of service, leadership and contributions to the Salvadoran community in Maryland.

The recognition honors Vásquez’s more than 40-year career in the hospitality industry and his commitment to creating a welcoming place where every guest feels like family. “Some people leave a lasting impact because of what they do. Others because of how they make people feel. Jaime belongs to the latter,” El Andariego shared. “He doesn’t simply welcome every guest who walks through our doors. He greets them with a genuine smile, a warm embrace, and the kind of hospitality that makes everyone feel at home.”

Before opening El Andariego, Vásquez spent more than four decades in the restaurant industry, including serving as restaurant manager at The Lafayette inside Washington, D.C.’s historic Hay-Adams Hotel. Twenty-seven years ago, he and his wife, Cristina, opened El Andariego with the dream of creating a restaurant where everyone would feel at home.

According to his daughter, Jennifer, that dream required sacrifice. Jaime worked three jobs while building the restaurant, determined to create something special for the community. Today, El Andariego remains a true family business. Jaime’s sister, Consuelo, serves as the restaurant’s chef, his brother Ramon is a manager, and Jennifer also helps manage the restaurant alongside her parents.

Beyond serving authentic Salvadoran and Mexican cuisine, the family has made giving back a cornerstone of the business. El Andariego regularly hosts fundraisers for local schools and churches, while Jaime has mentored young hospitality professionals both in the United States and in his native El Salvador, sharing his passion for customer service and leadership.

“This honor celebrates your remarkable journey,” the restaurant wrote. “But those of us who know you understand that your greatest achievement has always been the love, respect, and lasting memories you’ve shared with so many.”
