A Silver Spring car salesman is celebrating an early birthday surprise after winning a $50,000 prize on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off just months before turning 50.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the longtime Lottery player claimed the prize on July 9 after purchasing several 50X the Cash scratch-off tickets at State Line Market, located at 7817 Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring. After scratching multiple non-winning tickets, he almost gave up before discovering the final ticket in the stack was a winner. Believing he had won $5,000, he asked the store clerk to scan the ticket, only to learn it was actually worth $50,000.
The winner, who turns 50 in October, said he plans to use part of the prize to pay bills and celebrate his milestone birthday in a special way. State Line Market will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
