Maryland Pizza Icon Opens New Location in New York City

Ledo Pizza announced that its newest location is now open at 220 Varick St. in Manhattan’s West Village, marking the chain’s second location in New York City.

For many Marylanders, Ledo Pizza is more than just another pizza restaurant. The brand traces its roots to 1955, when the original Ledo Restaurant opened in Adelphi in Prince George’s County. The family-run business became known for its signature rectangular pizzas featuring a flaky, biscuity crust, sweet tomato sauce and smoked provolone cheese—a combination that has become a regional favorite for generations.

The chain’s iconic rectangular pizza was originally the result of necessity. When Ledo first opened, round pizza pans were not widely available, so the founders baked their pizzas in rectangular pans instead. The unique shape has remained one of the brand’s defining features ever since.

The new restaurant, located at 220 Varick St., New York, NY 10014, is now open and serving customers in the heart of the West Village as the Maryland-born chain continues to expand beyond its home market.
