Driver Charged After Allegedly Striking Pedestrian And Leaving Scene

A driver is facing charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian and continuing to drive without stopping in Takoma Park, according to police.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 12, at approximately 11:58am in the 1300 block of University Boulevard, where Takoma Park Police officers witnessed a driver hit a pedestrian.

Police said officers immediately rendered aid to the pedestrian and conducted a traffic stop on the striking vehicle a short distance away. According to investigators, the driver told officers he felt the impact and saw the pedestrian on the ground but believed the individual was intoxicated and resting on the pavement.

Emergency medical services were called to evaluate the pedestrian. However, the pedestrian declined medical treatment before EMS arrived, had no visible injuries, and told officers he was not injured.
