Four Montgomery County Spots Featured in Resy’s D.C. Road Trip Guide

Montgomery County is getting some national recognition from Resy, which recently featured several local restaurants and cafés in its new guide, “The Resy Guide to Road Trips From D.C.

The guide highlights destinations for travelers heading from Washington, D.C. to cities including Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Richmond. Along the way, it recommends several Montgomery County stops, with Zinnia, Woodmoor Pastry Shop, Centrado Cafe, and Burnt Hill Farm all earning mentions.

On the route toward Baltimore, Resy recommends stopping at Zinnia and Woodmoor Pastry Shop in Silver Spring before making a slight detour to Centrado Cafe in Burtonsville for “a locally roasted coffee, a pan dulce, or a pupusa.”

Located at 9201 Colesville Rd. in Silver Spring, Zinnia opened in October 2021 after transforming the historic Mrs. K’s Toll House property following the landmark restaurant’s closure after nearly 90 years. Since then, the all-day destination has expanded with its Gardens beer and wine garden, café, and tavern. Today, the restaurant is also launching a new fine dining experience led by former Republic chef and Takoma Park native Danny Wells.

Just a short drive away, Woodmoor Pastry Shop continues a family baking tradition that dates back more than 70 years. Located in the historic Woodmoor Shopping Center at Four Corners, the bakery first opened in 1954. Lee and Shirley Mower purchased the business in 1963, bringing scratch-baking techniques learned through Lee’s family bakery in Cumberland, Maryland. Today, the bakery remains family-owned and operated by Joanna Gray and the next generation of the Gray family.

In Burtonsville, Centrado Cafe, located at 15530 Old Columbia Pike, was also recognized. Operating from the front portion of the building shared with its sister restaurant, Luchador Bar & Eats, the café specializes in Central American coffee, pastries, and food. Centrado is owned by the Centrado Restaurant Group, which also operates Restaurant 198 in Burtonsville.

Also making the list was Burnt Hill Farm in Clarksburg, which Resy included among its selections for restaurants “worth more than a detour.” “There would have already been buzz for Burnt Hill because it comes from the same three siblings who brought national respect to Maryland grapes at Old Westminster Winery,” Resy writes. “Their partnership with chef Tae Strain, who led Momofuku CCDC, ups the ante. Guests can reserve a three-hour experience at the farm to see the spread, try the property’s wine and order small dishes. Or get on the mailing list to see when spots open for the 12-seat chef’s counter.”
