Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced finalized national settlements with seven opioid drug manufacturers that will provide the state with more than $13 million to support opioid treatment, recovery, and prevention efforts.
The settlements resolve allegations that the companies’ manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of opioid medications contributed to the nationwide opioid crisis.
The agreements involve Alvogen, Amneal, Apotex, Hikma, Mylan, Sun, and Zydus, which manufactured generic opioids including oxycodone, hydrocodone, and fentanyl patches. In addition to the financial payments, the settlements prohibit the companies from promoting opioids to prescribers or patients, restrict the production of high-dose oxycodone pills, prohibit opioid sales incentives for employees, and require systems to monitor and report suspicious opioid orders.
