Arrest Warrant Issued for Man Accused of Killing Montgomery County Woman in Howard County

Howard County police have obtained an arrest warrant for a man accused of killing his girlfriend in Columbia over the weekend.

Darwin Carcamo-Santiago, 24, is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of Esmeralda Perez-Mendez, 35, of Takoma Park. Police say Perez-Mendez was found dead inside a residence in the 9000 block of Watchlight Court on the afternoon of July 26.

According to investigators, an acquaintance of Carcamo-Santiago discovered Perez-Mendez deceased in the suspect’s bedroom after responding to the residence. Police said she suffered injuries consistent with strangulation.

Detectives believe Perez-Mendez was killed during the overnight hours of July 25 into July 26. Authorities also believe Carcamo-Santiago fled the area and are actively searching for him. Carcamo-Santiago is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with black hair.
