The Montgomery County Council voted Tuesday to reappoint James Hedrick to the Montgomery County Planning Board, giving him a second four-year term on the five-member board.
Hedrick, who was first appointed in February 2023, said it has been an honor to serve on the Planning Board. “Serving on the Planning Board has been both an honor and a great responsibility,” Hedrick said. “I’m grateful to my colleagues, the Parks and Planning staff, and community members who brought their perspectives to some of the county’s most important conversations. I look forward to helping shape policies that will continue to positively affect people’s daily lives.”
Planning Board Chair Artie Harris welcomed the reappointment, praising Hedrick’s leadership and expertise. “We are pleased with the reappointment of Commissioner James Hedrick to the Board,” Harris said. “His expertise and thoughtful leadership are invaluable as we plan for Montgomery County’s future growth and steward a world-class park system. I look forward to continuing the work we started together on behalf of the communities we serve.”
During his first term, Hedrick helped oversee several major planning efforts, including the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan, the University Boulevard Corridor Plan, the Bethesda Downtown Plan Minor Master Plan Amendment, the Great Seneca Plan: Connecting Life and Science, and the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment. He has also participated in reviews of development projects and community listening sessions focused on the county’s housing challenges.
Outside of the Planning Board, Hedrick serves as the executive director of Rockville Housing Enterprises, the City of Rockville’s public housing authority. He previously served on the boards of the Action Committee for Transit, Montgomery for All, and the Twinbrook Community Association. Hedrick lives in Rockville with his wife and three children.
