The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Montgomery County and a large portion of Maryland, along with parts of Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. The watch remains in effect until 10pm Tuesday.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. It does not mean a tornado has been spotted. Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware throughout the evening and be prepared to take shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued. According to the National Weather Service, the primary threats include:
- A few tornadoes possible
- Isolated hail up to ping pong ball size
- Scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph
If severe weather approaches, move indoors, avoid windows, and keep multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially if storms develop after dark.
