The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is investigating the fatal shooting of a Silver Spring man Thursday afternoon in the Landover area.
On August 6 at approximately 4:40pm, officers responded to the 6900 block of Stoddert Lane for a reported shooting. Officers located 41-year-old Malcolm King of Silver Spring outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the suspect fled following the shooting. Within hours, PGPD Homicide Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the adult male suspect. Police said King and the suspect knew each other, and investigators preliminarily believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing business-related dispute.
Members of PGPD’s Fugitive Unit, which is part of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located the suspect Friday morning in the Baltimore area and pursued him to the Aberdeen area.
Before officers took the suspect into custody, police said he is preliminarily believed to have fatally shot himself inside his vehicle. PGPD said none of its officers fired their weapons. Maryland State Police is leading the investigation into the suspect’s death and will release his identity after his family has been notified.
