Halloween is still nearly three months away, but spooky season has officially begun in Maryland. Spirit Halloween is returning across the state for the 2026 season with at least 21 locations, including several stores that have already opened their doors (all listed below).
The seasonal retailer is once again taking over a variety of former big-box and retail spaces, including former JoAnn, Party City, Sears, CVS, Michaels, Rite Aid, DSW, Saks Off 5th, and Neiman Marcus Last Call locations.
As of August 8, Spirit Halloween lists stores in Annapolis, California, Hagerstown, Wheaton, and Westminster as open. Several additional Maryland stores are listed as opening sometime in August, while others are currently designated as “Coming Soon.”
Spirit Halloween operates more than 1,500 seasonal stores throughout the United States and Canada, selling Halloween costumes, decorations, animatronics, makeup, accessories, and other seasonal merchandise. Stores also offer officially licensed merchandise based on movies, television shows, video games, and other pop culture properties.

Montgomery County will have three Spirit Halloween stores this season, with locations at the Clarksburg Premium Outlets, Congressional Plaza in Rockville, and Westfield Wheaton. The Wheaton store is already open, while the Clarksburg location is scheduled to open in August and Rockville is listed as coming soon.
Spirit Halloween stores typically operate through the Halloween season before closing in early November. The company’s online store remains available year-round.
