Rockville Memorial Library will host its annual Vinyl Day celebration on Saturday, August 15, with activities taking place from 10am-3pm at the library and in Rockville Town Center Plaza.
The free event celebrates music, community and vinyl culture with live performances, a record sale, dance workshops, a silent disco, family activities and hands-on programs throughout the day.
Live performances and demonstrations will take place on the Vinyl Day Mainstage in Rockville Town Center Plaza beginning with Drumming Basics: Brazilian Rhythms from 10-10:45am. Rock in Español follows from 11-11:45am, with K-Pop Mix from 12-12:45pm, History of DJing and Hip Hop Culture from 1-1:45pm and Leon City Sounds Cumbia closing out the mainstage schedule from 2-2:45pm.
Inside Rockville Memorial Library, Friends of the Library, Montgomery County will hold a vinyl sale, giving visitors an opportunity to dig through crates of records in search of albums to add to their collections. Proceeds from the sale will support Montgomery County Public Libraries through Friends of the Library, Montgomery County.
Several activities will be available throughout the day, including a Listening Lounge, an art station with VisArts and the Audio Wonder Room: Science and Sound. The Audio Wonder Room will feature hands-on experiments exploring how sound and audio work, with DC Modular Society joining the program to introduce visitors to electronic music and synthesizers.
Programming for children and families includes Family Storytime from 11-11:30am, a Children’s Dance Party from 11:30am-12pm, The Songwriters Toolbox Workshop from 12:30-3:30pm and STEMusic with Roy Moye from 1-1:45pm.
Second-floor activities include two Silent Disco sessions in the Teen Room, scheduled for 12-12:45pm and 2-2:45pm. A K-Pop Dance Workshop will take place from 1-1:45pm in the Teen Room, while Vinyl Day Trivia will be held from 1-2pm in the second-floor Adult Programming Room.
Vinyl Day runs from 10am-3pm on Saturday, August 15 at Rockville Memorial Library and Rockville Town Square.
