The Cabin John Miniature Train is celebrating 60 years of carrying families through Cabin John Regional Park, and Montgomery Parks is marking the milestone with discounted rides and giveaways this weekend.
The train’s 60th anniversary celebration will take place Saturday, August 15, from 9am to 4:30pm. Train rides will be half price throughout the day, and children under 12 will receive a free train whistle while supplies last. Children under 2 can ride for free with a paying adult.
The miniature train first opened in August 1966 and has since become a longtime Montgomery County tradition, with generations of families returning to ride the train and many former young riders now bringing their own children and grandchildren.
“For six decades, the Cabin John Miniature Train has been a tradition that connects generations,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or introducing the train to a new generation, we invite everyone to join us in celebrating this special anniversary and enjoy a ride through Cabin John Regional Park.”
The Cabin John Miniature Train takes passengers on a two-mile journey through Cabin John Regional Park. The family-friendly attraction operates from April through October and welcomes thousands of visitors each season.
