Adventist HealthCare’s Shady Grove Medical Center and White Oak Medical Center have once again been recognized by the American Heart Association for the care they provide to patients experiencing strokes and heart attacks.
Both Montgomery County hospitals received the American Heart Association’s 2026 “Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.” The recognition is given to hospitals that consistently follow evidence-based treatment guidelines designed to improve outcomes for stroke patients. Shady Grove Medical Center also earned the “Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus”designation for meeting additional measures related to timely and advanced stroke care.
Both hospitals were also recognized for their treatment of patients experiencing non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, or NSTEMI, a serious type of heart attack caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. Shady Grove and White Oak each received the “Get With The Guidelines – Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Silver Award with Target: Type 2 Diabetes.”
White Oak Medical Center received two additional recognitions. The hospital earned the “Get With The Guidelines – Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Bronze” award for its treatment of STEMI, the most severe type of heart attack, which occurs when a coronary artery is completely blocked. White Oak also received the “Get With The Guidelines – Resuscitation Bronze” award for its care of patients experiencing cardiac arrest while hospitalized.

The latest awards add to previous recognition for both hospitals’ cardiovascular and stroke programs. Shady Grove Medical Center remains the only hospital in Maryland outside of Baltimore to hold The Joint Commission’s Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center certification, which recognizes hospitals providing advanced stroke intervention and post-procedure care.
Shady Grove is also the only hospital in Maryland to receive the American College of Cardiology’s 2026 HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence.
