The Takoma Park Police Department has announced that the city’s newest automated stop sign enforcement cameras will begin a 30-day warning period on Monday, August 17, before citations begin in September.
During the warning period, motorists who commit a stop sign violation at one of the camera locations will receive a warning rather than a citation. Citation issuance is scheduled to begin September 16. The new automated stop sign cameras are located at the following intersections and directions:
• Ethan Allen Avenue (MD-410), southeast at Jackson Avenue
• Carroll Avenue (MD-195), northeast at Lincoln Avenue
• Carroll Avenue (MD-195), southwest at Lincoln Avenue
• Philadelphia Avenue (MD-410), southeast at Holly Avenue
• Maple Avenue, southeast at Sherman Avenue
• Maple Avenue, northwest at Sherman Avenue
• Maple Avenue, northbound at Ritchie Avenue
• Maple Avenue, southbound at Ritchie Avenue
• Maple Avenue, southeast at Grant Avenue
• Maple Avenue, northwest at Grant Avenue
According to Takoma Park Police, the goal of the stop sign camera pilot program is to encourage compliance with traffic laws, reduce dangerous driving behaviors and improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists within the city’s school zones.
