PopUp Bagels has opened its first Maryland location in Bethesda, with the shop currently operating in a brief soft opening phase ahead of its official opening on Friday, August 14 (a preview video is available below).
The new location is at 7607 Old Georgetown Road on the ground floor of the Solaire apartment building. Bethesda becomes PopUp Bagels’ second location in the Washington region, following the opening of its Georgetown shop at 1078 Wisconsin Ave. NW in April.
The growing bagel brand isn’t done expanding in the DMV. A Ballston, VA location is currently under construction, and owner Brian Harrington told The MoCoShow that the company is scouting additional locations throughout the region.
PopUp Bagels has built a devoted following thanks to its small-batch bagels and viral social media presence, earning millions of likes on TikTok. The company has also received national recognition, including being named one of The New York Times’ best bagel shops in New York City and winning Brooklyn Bagelfest’s “Best Bagel” award in consecutive years.
The chain, which also operates locations in New York, Connecticut, Florida and California, is known for bagels featuring a crisp exterior and soft interior, baked in small batches throughout the day.
Founder Adam Goldberg previously said the company began with a homemade bagel recipe shared among friends before growing into a national brand. “When we started baking bagels in my backyard, I never imagined we’d turn it into a national brand,” Goldberg said. “We weren’t trying to start a business. We just wanted to make something great and share it with friends.”
With Bethesda now open, Georgetown operating since April and Ballston on the way, PopUp Bagels’ DMV footprint is continuing to grow, with additional locations potentially on the horizon.
