Beer and wine sales have resumed at Locavino in Downtown Silver Spring following a temporary lapse in the wine café’s alcohol license.
According to Source of the Spring, Locavino’s new alcohol license was approved this week following a Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners hearing on Thursday. Alcohol sales had been suspended while the restaurant worked through the licensing process.
Co-owners Jarrod Jabre and Justin Wallace announced Saturday morning that beer and wine were once again available, thanking customers for their support over the summer.
“Wine and beer are back! Thank you for your overwhelming support this summer. We’re here early getting everything back on the shelves, and can’t wait to see you. Cheers!” the business wrote on social media.
Locavino opened in Downtown Silver Spring in August 2019 as what Jabre described at the time as the “spiritual successor” to Adega, a longtime neighborhood restaurant and wine shop that had operated in the space for nearly 15 years.
Jabre and Wallace both previously worked at Adega and began exploring plans for the space after learning the restaurant had closed. They initially hoped to retain the Adega name before ultimately creating Locavino, a name inspired by the idea of someone who “drinks local.”
The café combines a neighborhood restaurant and bar with a wine retail operation, offering wine alongside local beers on tap and in cans and bottles. When developing the original food menu, Jabre and Wallace worked with former Adega kitchen manager Santos Amaya to incorporate some favorites from the former restaurant along with new dishes.
Both owners had longstanding ties to the area when Locavino opened, with Jabre having lived in Silver Spring for nearly 15 years and Wallace having been born in Takoma Park and lived in the D.C. area throughout his life.
With its new license approved, Locavino has resumed both beer and wine sales.
