Former MCPS Teacher Accused of Assaulting Administrators Found Not Competent to Stand Trial

A former Montgomery County Public Schools teacher accused of assaulting two administrators while trespassing at the Silver Spring elementary school where she previously worked has been found not competent to stand trial, according to Bethesda Today.

Nadine Akoko Sefako Dogbo, 27, of Gaithersburg, faces two counts of second-degree assault and charges related to trespassing, disrupting the educational process, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct stemming from a June 17 incident at Glen Haven Elementary School. She is being held without bond.

According to Bethesda Today, District Judge John Moffett ordered Dogbo to undergo a competency evaluation following a hearing on Monday, August 10, during which she became argumentative and insulted her attorney.

The evaluation determined that Dogbo is not competent to stand trial, District Judge Patrick Mays said during a Friday hearing. Mays ordered Dogbo committed to the Maryland Department of Health for treatment in hopes that her competency can be restored by Dec. 15, when she is scheduled to return to court.

The charges stem from an incident that prompted a lockdown at Glen Haven Elementary on June 17. Montgomery County Police responded to the school at approximately 11:34 a.m. for a report that a former employee was trespassing inside the building.

While officers were responding, police learned the individual had allegedly assaulted school staff members, prompting the school to enter lockdown status.

Responding officers located Dogbo outside the school. Police said she fled when officers arrived but was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. Once she was in custody, the school transitioned from lockdown to secure status while officers stabilized the situation.

Dogbo was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged in connection with the incident.
