Two Maryland restaurants, both with locations in Montgomery County, have been included in Eater DC’s list of the “Best Affordable Dining Options in the D.C. Area.”
Quarry House Tavern, located at 8401 Georgia Ave in Silver Spring, is a popular local dive bar known for its burgers, famous tots, craft beer selection, and other bar fare, with several menu items starting around $5.
“This is one of Silver Spring’s oldest bars, and it keeps prices low to inflation-proof levels,” Eater wrote. “The bar focuses on Maryland craft beer and $3 PBRs daily from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Bar snacks like tots, pulled pork sliders, and onion rings are around $5 and up. Live music is big here, and shows are free (or under $20).” Quarry House is also the holder of Montgomery County liquor license No. 2. Hank Dietle’s Tavern in Rockville holds the county’s first liquor license.
Pupuseria La Familiar, located at 11324 Fern St in Wheaton, was also included on the list. The Salvadoran restaurant offers a large selection of pupusas, with many priced under $3 each, along with soups, beverages, grilled platters, and a variety of other Salvadoran dishes.
“This Salvadoran pupuseria with two Maryland locations and another in Falls Church, Virginia is one of the region’s cheapest options for masa stuffed with cheese and other ingredients for under $3,” Eater wrote. “There are traditional pupusas, like revuelta, as well as offbeat options like a ham and cheese pupusa. The spot also has a huge menu of other affordable options, from soups to grilled platters.” Pupuseria La Familiar also operates locations in New Carrollton, Maryland, and Falls Church, Virginia.
