Call Your Mother Deli has been named the winner in the Best Bagel category by the Washington City Paper, which included bagel shops from D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
The popular D.C.-based “Jew-ish” deli has two Montgomery County locations, including Pike & Rose and its newly opened restaurant at 4828 St. Elmo Ave. in downtown Bethesda.
Bullfrog Bagels finished as the runner-up. Montgomery County’s Bethesda Bagels and Goldberg’s New York Bagels were among the finalists, along with Bagels Etc., Buffalo & Bergen, Pearl’s Bagels and Pops Bakery.
Call Your Mother’s new Bethesda restaurant opened on August 3 in the former Hardwood Artisans space, which was previously home to Design Within Reach and Johnny Rockets. The opening marked the brand’s return to Bethesda after its popular pink “Lil’ Deli” trolley relocated from Old Georgetown Road to Riverdale Park last year following a five-year run.
Founded by husband-and-wife duo Andrew Dana and Chef Daniela Moreira, Call Your Mother began as a farmers market bagel stand before expanding throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Colorado and Illinois.
The menu features signature bagel sandwiches including the Jetski, DelRay Club and Sun City, along with scratch-made babka muffins, white cookies, locally roasted coffee and seasonal beverages. The deli has also received national recognition, including being named one of Eater’s Best New Restaurants in America.
