Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a two-alarm apartment fire late Wednesday night in the 6000 block of California Circle, off East Jefferson Street in Rockville.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the second floor of the four-story garden-style apartment building. The fire extended from a second-floor apartment into an apartment on the third floor before being extinguished.
More than 75 MCFRS personnel responded to the incident, and firefighters assisted several residents from the building. The fire caused significant damage, with at least two units affected and multiple families displaced. The total number of displaced residents has not yet been determined.
According to MCFRS, an adult male maintenance worker who was alerting residents about the fire was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was not a resident of one of the apartments directly affected by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
