MCPS is preparing for potential HVAC problems as forecasts call for temperatures to climb into the 90s next week.
The school system said the hot weather will place additional strain on HVAC systems across its hundreds of buildings, many of which have older equipment. MCPS building services teams are preparing to respond when problems occur, but the district is asking students, staff and families for patience.
MCPS recommends drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight and comfortable clothing and seeking assistance when feeling overheated or unwell. The district said it will communicate with school communities about heat-related or HVAC challenges as they arise.
Outdoor athletic practices and events will follow MCPS heat-safety guidelines.
