The family of Craig Anthony Budd, the 61-year-old Gaithersburg man who was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday evening, has launched a fundraiser to help cover funeral, burial and memorial expenses.
Budd, known to many as “Santo,” was the father of two children and grandfather of four granddaughters. His family described him as a barber, business owner, musician, youth mentor and beloved member of the community.
Many knew Budd through Major League Barbers in Montgomery Village, where his family said he became a familiar and cherished presence. He was also known for his love of go-go music and affiliation with High Potential Band.
“He also poured into young people as a mentor, using his experiences and the lessons life taught him to help guide others,” his children, ShaVonté Budd and Craig “CJ” Budd Jr., wrote. “No matter how you knew Craig, chances are you have a story about him and carry a piece of his wisdom he so freely shared.”
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, Budd was crossing North Frederick Avenue north of Professional Drive at approximately 8:10pm on Friday, August 28, when he was struck by a northbound black 2006 BMW 325i.
Budd was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
His family said contributions to the fundraiser will assist with funeral and burial expenses, memorial arrangements and other unexpected costs. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
