Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on I-70 in Howard County that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man and the arrest of an 18-year-old Damascus driver on multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide while under the influence.
Shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, troopers responded to eastbound I-70 near Morgan Station Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a Genesis G80 struck the rear of an Isuzu box truck, causing the truck to lose control, strike a guardrail and overturn.
A passenger in the box truck, identified as 32-year-old Sakee Ali Davis of Havre de Grace, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck’s driver, 21-year-old Noah Ensminger of Elkton, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Following consultation with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, police charged the driver of the Genesis, 18-year-old John Amare of Damascus, with negligent motor vehicle homicide while under the influence, motor vehicle homicide while impaired by alcohol, negligent manslaughter and other related charges and citations. He is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
The crash closed lanes for approximately four hours. The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate.
