Montgomery County Police have arrested a 23-year-old Burtonsville man in connection with the March 2025 shooting death of 23-year-old Jonah Kimindu Mutua of Silver Spring.
On March 8, 2025, at approximately 11:04 a.m., officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace for a reported shooting. Mutua was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot.
Detectives previously identified 23-year-old Douglas David Lacey as the alleged shooter. Lacey was arrested in April 2025 and remains in custody under indictment for Mutua’s murder.
Police said the continuing investigation uncovered evidence that Bekine Tibebu Ayele and Lacey conspired to kill Mutua and that Ayele allegedly hired Lacey to carry out the killing.
Ayele has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit while awaiting a bond hearing.
A photo of Ayele has not been released by police.
