Steeze Burger’s double cheeseburger has earned a spot on The Washington Post’s list of the “40 Essential Dishes of D.C.,” highlighting standout selections from restaurants across Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Founded by Laytonsville resident Hunter Karametos, the smash burger concept launched as a pop-up in 2022 and quickly developed a devoted following across the DMV. That momentum carried over to the recent opening of its permanent location at the Shops at Potomac Valley (12141 Darnestown Rd. in Gaithersburg), where customers packed the shopping center for their first taste of Steeze Burger’s new home.
Steeze Burger was previously ranked the number one burger in the DMV by The Washington Post and was more recently included on our list of “11 Burgers That Stand Out in Montgomery County.”
In its latest recognition, The Washington Post highlighted the work Karametos put into developing the burger, including sampling more than 150 burgers across three continents. Steeze Burger’s patties use a custom blend featuring seven cuts of beef, including chuck and brisket sourced primarily from Maryland farms, along with bone marrow.
The double cheeseburger is topped with steamed onions, dill pickles, American cheese and house sauce on a sesame seed bun. The Post described it as “borderline hedonistic.”
